A motorcyclist was killed Thursday when he lost control, struck the center divider of a Lancaster street and his helmet popped off, authorities said. The man, who has not been identified pending notification of relatives, was traveling east on Avenue L near 42nd Street West about 11:45 a.m. when his motorcycle hit the roadway's raised median, California Highway Patrol Officer Tom Hastain said.

Two people were killed in the Antelope Valley on Thursday after one of them failed to stop her car at a stop sign and was struck broadside by a motorcyclist, authorities said. Steve Mastin, 33, and a 56-year-old woman, both of Lake Los Angeles, were killed instantly in the 8:40 a.m. accident, California Highway Patrol spokesman Miguel Siordia said.

A 33-year-old Las Vegas man died Monday when he lost control of his motorcycle on a strip of highway in the Angeles National Forest and plunged 300 feet down an embankment, authorities said. Scott Bangert was driving 60 mph westbound on the Angeles Forest Highway, about four miles west of Big Pines, at about 9:30 a.m. when he slid off the shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. The speed limit at the location is 55 mph, CHP Officer Karen Faciane said.

A 39-year-old motorcyclist from Thousand Oaks was killed Wednesday after he slammed into a car that turned in front of him, authorities said. The motorcyclist was heading east on Thousand Oaks Boulevard approaching La Baya Drive about 5:45 p.m. when a Volvo traveling west turned left onto La Baya Drive into the path of the motorcyclist, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Smith. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, slammed into the right rear door of the Volvo, he said.

A motorcyclist died Sunday following an afternoon collision with a car on a two-lane highway east of here, authorities reported. The 1:25 p.m. accident occurred on California 138 near 228th Street East, said Officer Garry Goldenberg of the California Highway Patrol. The adult male motorcyclist, whose identity was not released pending notification of family, died at the scene, Goldenberg said.

A motorcyclist was killed when he fell under a three-axle dump truck on Westlake Boulevard near the Los Angeles and Ventura county line, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday. Robert Scanlon, 19, of Thousand Oaks was southbound on Westlake Boulevard, just south of Carlisle Road, about 8 a.m. Tuesday when he took a curve too quickly and fell under the northbound truck and was run over, CHP Officer Randy Pickens said.

A high-speed chase ended early Sunday when two people aboard a stolen motorcycle crashed into a station wagon and were killed as they were being pursued by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, authorities said. Deputies spotted the motorcycle speeding on Crenshaw Boulevard near 43rd Street in unincorporated View Park about 3 a.m. and pulled up behind it to cite the driver, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Tim Tyree said.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been charged with assault for allegedly chasing down a Costa Mesa man and shooting him after the two men were involved in a traffic accident. Gregory Cook, 40, faces a maximum 12-year prison term if he is convicted of the charge filed against him Tuesday by the Orange County district attorney's office. Cook was charged with one count of assault, along with two special allegations of using a firearm and inflicting great bodily injury, said Deputy Dist.
