Authorities are seeking information about the slaying of a Lancaster man last weekend. Timothy Lee Navarro, 24, was found dead of multiple gunshots wounds just after midnight Sunday in his condominium at 2040 W. Ave. J-13 after neighbors called 911, said Sgt. Ray Rodriguez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Homicide Bureau. Navarro, who lived alone, was found in the kitchen, Rodriguez said.

Three men were found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder in connection with the 2012 shooting of a 21-year-old man in Lancaster. Brandy Houston was shot 12 times during a street brawl involving about a dozen people on Nov. 29, 2012, in the 43000 block of Gadsden Avenue, authorities said. The fight broke out after Houston got into a argument with the three men who were  found guilty Wednesday, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said. They were identified by prosecutors as Randy "Bam" Sullivan, 36, Joshua Lockett, 21, and Terrell Henderson, 22. A 28-year-old parolee has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting that left two men dead at a Lancaster party, authorities said Monday. Leo Jerome Johnson is accused of shooting Nicky Packard , 33, and Michael Sewell , 22, after the three men began arguing at the June 23 party, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Johnson left the party and returned. He brandished a handgun and shot Packard three times and Sewell once in the chest, Sheriff's Department officials said in a statement.

City Council members, angry about the escape of a convicted murderer from the local state prison this week, predicted Friday the city will drop its support for a proposed second local prison. On the eve of today's scheduled 11 a.m. City Hall public hearing called prior to the escape, council members reported getting scores of calls from angry citizens.

Anthony Wayne Smith, a former defensive end for the Oakland Raiders, lured a Lancaster mechanic to a remote stretch of desert highway and together with two accomplices murdered the man, prosecutors told a jury Monday at the Antelope Valley Courthouse. Smith, 44, who played professional football with the Los Angeles and Oakland Raiders between 1991 and 1998, is charged with the October 2008 murder of 31-year-old Maurilio Ponce. Also charged are Charles Eric Honest, 42, of Los Angeles and Dewann Wesley White, 33, of Bloomington.

Serious crime registered a double-digit decline in Lancaster and rose slightly in Santa Clarita during the first nine months of the year compared to the same period last year, authorities said. The number of serious crimes in Santa Clarita rose a scant 0.2%, while declining 15.6% in Lancaster, according to statistics released by the sheriff's stations in the two cities. The serious crimes tallied were murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, grand theft auto and arson.

Serious crime rose slightly in Santa Clarita in the first nine months of the year, but registered a double-digit decline in Lancaster, authorities said Wednesday. Compared with the January-through-September period a year ago, the number of serious crimes in Santa Clarita rose a scant 0.2%, while declining 15.6% in Lancaster, according to statistics released by the Santa Clarita and Lancaster sheriff's stations.

Two inmates have been slain over the last three weeks inside a cellblock at the Lancaster state prison, renewing concerns about overcrowding at the institution. The latest victim was found Tuesday morning, stuffed under the bottom bunk of his cell and wrapped in a bedsheet, said prison spokesman Ken Lewis. Richard Ponton, 36, also reportedly had a pillow over his face and a cardboard box shielding his body. "There was a significant amount of blood on the floor," Lewis said.
