A mother of three was shot and killed Wednesday by her estranged husband before he turned the gun on himself, authorities said. Sadie Charlee Finney, 31, had recently left her husband, Aaron Finney, 34, and obtained a restraining order against him, police said. She moved with the couple's three sons, age 4 to 12 years, into a Murrieta condominium in the 24900 block of Madison Avenue, a police spokesman said. On Wednesday about 8:30 p.m.

Authorities arrested an 80-year-old Murrieta man on suspicion of sexually abusing his 7-year-old granddaughter. Richard Allen Crabb told authorities "he has enjoyed little girls between the ages of 6 and 11 for many years and has a severe problem," Sgt. Jim Ganley of the Murietta Police Department said. Crabb was arrested after the victim told her father, who alerted authorities.

The former mayor of Murrieta was indicted Tuesday for allegedly pressuring city officials to issue permits to his daughter's day care center while he was in office and hiding his financial interest in the facility. Jack van Haaster, 49, also faces felony charges of perjury and filing false documents for failing to report that he had received close to half a million dollars in loans from city residents and business owners, according to the Riverside County district attorney's office.

Susan Dye remembers the sting of being kept from her grieving family after her sister-in-law's funeral three years ago in Northern California. Her wheelchair couldn't negotiate the stairs to the reception. "That was kind of embarrassing and traumatic," said Dye, 51, of Murrieta. "I had known my sister-in-law for 25 years." At her home, Dye has ramps, wide doors and hallways, and other accommodations for a person in a wheelchair, and soon many homes will be like it.

A 70-year-old mentally impaired man, unable to walk without assistance, was rescued from a sweltering Murrieta garage by police, authorities said Friday. The temperature was more than 100 degrees when police discovered Andrew James Young in the garage July 20 with only a cot, fan and portable toilet, investigators said. Also in the garage was the family vehicle. "He had to be assisted into the house for us to get him out of that situation," said Murrieta Police Sgt.
