This time, don't blame California's business climate. Los Angeles-based MagneTek, a fast-growing maker and distributor of electrical equipment, said Tuesday that it is moving its corporate headquarters to Nashville, Tenn. But MagneTek officials took pains to point out that they really do like California--so much so that Andrew G. Galef, MagneTek chairman and chief executive, plans to stay in Los Angeles and run the firm long-distance with frequent visits to Tennessee.

Nowhere was the changing face of the United States more evident Wednesday night than here in Alabama, land of Bear Bryant, the Crimson Tide and ... the Chapines? Guatemala's fans turned out in their blue-and-white thousands on a warm evening to cheer their country's national soccer team (nicknamed the Chapines) in its World Cup qualifying game against the U.S. It wasn't what U.S Coach Bruce Arena expected.

Delbert Mann, who directed the acclaimed live TV production of "Marty," Paddy Chayefsky's classic tale of a lonely Bronx butcher, and then won an Academy Award directing the 1955 movie version, has died. He was 87. Mann, a former president of the Directors Guild of America, died of pneumonia Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his son Fred said Monday.

Pop music reunions are all the rage these days, from the nostalgia of the Monkees to those pioneers of punk, the Sex Pistols. Toss in such 1970s-era mega-bands as the Eagles, Steely Dan and Styx, and it's reasonable to assume a lucrative payoff (remember the $115 top ticket price for the Eagles' Irvine Meadows shows?) often figures into the bands' motivation. Except in the case of the Amazing Rhythm Aces.
