National Technical Systems Inc., a Calabasas chain of testing labs, said its profit for the second fiscal quarter that ended July 31 was $288,000, up 61% from $179,000 in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenues for the quarter were $10.9 million, up 19% from $9.13 million in the same quarter last year. For the first six months of the fiscal year, profit was $302,000, down 17% from $365,000 last year. Revenues for the six-month period were $20.5 million, up from $19.3 million a year ago.

The company previously serviced the Southwest market from its California laboratories.

National Technical Systems Inc. said preliminary results show that its revenues reached a record $15 million in its third quarter, and its nine-month revenues also set a record with $41.7 million. The latest quarterly result marks a 22% jump in revenues compared to $12.3 million in sales in last year's third period. Meanwhile, the company estimated that its nine-month sales jumped by 20% compared to a year earlier.
