Her Nationwide Series debut ended when she got taken out in a 12-car wreck, an unavoidable ending to a day that never really went as planned. Yes, Danica Patrick still has plenty to learn about racing stock cars. She felt uncomfortable for a large portion of the Drive4COPD 300 on a cool and windy Saturday afternoon. She did not want to push ahead and be aggressive. She stalled once coming out of the pits. She avoided one crash early on, but could not avoid the one that took her out on Lap 68, when she tried to duck low to avoid the spinning cars in front of her. Instead, Patrick collided with the cars and slammed into the wall, then spun into the grass.

As Danica Patrick resumes NASCAR racing this weekend in Southern California, the popular IndyCar driver acknowledged that she is struggling with stock cars and now needs a driving coach. "I really do need help," Patrick said in an interview. Her coach could be Mark Martin, the veteran driver in NASCAR's top-tier Sprint Cup Series, when his schedule permits and other experienced drivers as well, according to both Patrick and Kelley Earnhardt, general manager of JR Motorsports, which provides the cars Patrick drives in NASCAR's second-level Nationwide Series.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., the popular NASCAR driver who co-owns JR Motorsports, said in a statement that "as we've discussed the direction of JR Motorsports moving forward, it is clear our differences in ideas were too vast to overcome. " Eury also is Earnhardt's cousin and a co-owner of JR Motorsports. "I love him like a brother, and you'll never hear me say a bad thing about him," Earnhardt said of Eury.

Now that Danica Patrick is halfway through her first full season in NASCAR, one question that keeps shadowing her is when will Patrick start rubbing fenders more often with other drivers to see if she can charge her way to the front - and earn more respect from her rivals. The driver celebrated more for her glamour and popularity than her racing record has in a word been, middling, in NASCAR's second-level Nationwide Series this year - her finishes haven't been particularly good or bad. But Patrick, 30, has fast Chevrolets prepared by her team, JR Motorsports, which is co-owned by NASCAR superstarDale Earnhardt Jr.She's also learning more each race about handling the often unwieldy stock cars, protecting her position and building her confidence.

Fox Sports already was set to carry the first 13 Cup races, as it does now, under an eight-year extension announced last October that was to last through 2022. Then last month, NASCAR announced another deal with NBC Sports -- a 10-year pact from 2015 through 2024 -- for NBC Sports to carry the final 20 races of the 36-race Cup schedule.

NASCAR heads to Kentucky Speedway this weekend, providing another hurdle for Travis Pastrana. Pastrana, 29, is the former action-sports and motocross star who this year became a full-time driver in NASCAR's second-level Nationwide Series, driving the No. 60 Ford for Roush Fenway Racing. It's been a struggle. Through 14 races, Pastrana has only three top-10 finishes, his highest being a ninth at Richmond International Raceway on April 26. He's 14th in the Nationwide point standings.

NASCAR said Tuesday it signed a 10-year deal for NBC Sports Group to carry the second half of NASCAR's premier Sprint Cup Series season, starting in 2015. The multibillion-dollar deal means ESPN, which has the final 17 of the series' 36 annual races, and TNT (Turner Sports), which has six races in the summer, will no longer carry Cup events after next year.
