Freshman Tina Thompson led four USC players in double figures with 12 points and the 10th-ranked Trojans scored seven consecutive points down the stretch to defeat Oregon, 47-45, Saturday night at Eugene, Ore. After the Ducks' Arianne Boyer missed a free throw, Nicky McCrimmon converted a three-point play to put the Trojans (9-1 overall, 2-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference) ahead for good, 43-41. The Ducks are 7-4 and 1-1.

Nicky McCrimmon made two three-point baskets in the final 48 seconds, leading the Atlanta Glory to a 70-65 victory over the Columbus Quest on Sunday night. McCrimmon came off the bench to score 15 points for the Glory (11-13), which drew a team-record crowd of 5,367 at Atlanta. Player-coach Teresa Edwards added 14 points. Tonya Edwards scored 19 points for Columbus (19-6). The Glory led most of the game until Shannon Johnson's layup gave the Quest a 56-55 lead with 5:39 remaining.

The Long Beach StingRays traded backup guard Nicky McCrimmon and a 1998 first-round draft pick to the Atlanta Glory on Friday for starting guard Niesa Johnson. McCrimmon, from USC, was playing behind point guard Andrea Nagy and off guard Beverly Williams, and did not figure to beat either out this season. "Rookie head coach" is one of two themes binding the women's basketball programs at USC and UCLA this season. Cheryl Miller, an All-American a decade ago, takes over at USC for Marianne Stanley, whose contract was allowed to expire in June. And Kathy Olivier, a seven-year UCLA assistant coach, took over for Billie Moore, who resigned after 16 seasons. USC broke a 29-29 halftime tie to sweep past Pepperdine, 76-61, Tuesday night in the second game of a women's basketball doubleheader at the Lyon Center. After sinking 41.9% of their shots in the first half, the Trojans made 55.2% in the second half before a crowd of 500. Jualeah Woods had 17 points, Lisa Leslie 16, Nicky McCrimmon 14 and Joni Easterly 11 for the No. 14-ranked Trojans (5-1). Leslie, who played 19 minutes, fouled out with 1:52 to play.

Lisa Leslie scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead ninth-ranked USC to an 87-81 victory over Arizona State on Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz. The Trojans, 13-1 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference, used a 21-6 second-half run to build an 80-65 lead with 6:35 to play. Freshman Tina Thompson scored nine of her 21 points during the run.

Lisa Leslie spearheaded USC's 85-63 victory over Arizona on Sunday before 920 at the Lyon Center, the Trojans' 12th Pacific 10 Conference victory and 18th overall. Playing 32 minutes, the 6-foot-5 Leslie had 32 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and three steals as USC won its second in a row since a 63-55 loss at Washington last week. Coach Cheryl Miller's team, ranked seventh, maintained a two-game conference lead over Stanford and Oregon, each 9-3.
