Pop star Cheryl Cole lasted only a few days as a judge on Fox's new talent-spotting program "The X Factor. " But she was dumped from the job so unceremoniously that, in the eyes of many Brits, she might as well have been on "The Apprentice," with snarky "X Factor" impresario Simon Cowell bellowing, "You're fired!" at her before an audience of millions. Cole's public humiliation set Britain's tabloids and society pages abuzz, mostly with sympathy toward her and contempt for Cowell.

Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough dominated throughout the 10th season of the hit ABC show and bested Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek to win the "Dancing" crown Tuesday night. Scherzinger performed a high-energy jive as her final dance that earned a perfect score of 30. Lysacek's quickstep also earned the judges' praise but just 28 points. ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews, the third finalist, and her professional partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, were eliminated from the dance-off halfway through the two-hour season closer.

See, the genius behind the CBS comedy wasn't just the nonlinear storytelling, but the writers' way of weaving inside jokes and recurring story lines to sometimes deliver a humorous slap to the face stronger than Marshall's storied slap of a thousand suns. With "How I Met Your Mother" having come to a close Monday and Ted (Josh Radnor) having revealed how he meets the titular mother of his two children (and what shockingly happened after that)

Simon Cowell's "The X Factor" has a problem, and it has nothing to do with new judges Britney Spears or Demi Lovato. It's those ratings. The singing show on Fox premiered its second season on Wednesday to shockingly low numbers compared with last year - which was itself considered a ratings disappointment. The two-hour extravaganza averaged 8.5-million total viewers, swooning 32% compared with last fall's series premiere. And that's not all. In head-to-head competition during the 8 p.m. hour, Fox lost - in both total viewers and in the key adults aged 18 to 49 demographic - to NBC's rival singing contest "The Voice" (10.7 million)
