City Council members have postponed a decision on whether to revoke El Azteca Nightclub and Restaurant's entertainment permit so that they can see what the Planning Commission does tonight with the permit to operate the controversial nightclub. Meanwhile, Azteca's owner, Jorge Rocha, said he has closed his business because restrictions that the City Council placed on him last month have made it impossible to make a profit.

Two men were shot to death after gunfire erupted outside a La Puente nightclub early Tuesday. The incident ignited shortly before 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the A M Hacienda nightclub on Old Valley Boulevard after security guards ejected two groups of men from the club for arguing. "At least one of several suspects drew a handgun, striking the victims in the upper body," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Bob Killeen said. Both victims died at the scene, he said.

Two canisters believed to contain pepper gas were set off inside a crowded Lisbon nightclub just as the lights were cut, causing a panicked stampede by hundreds of people that left seven dead. At least 60 others were treated at a hospital for bruises and breathing difficulties after the crush to escape the fumes. No one claimed responsibility for what appeared to be a planned attack, and police opened an investigation. The attack on the Luanda club came about 4:30 a.m.

The city has filed misdemeanor complaints against the owner and manager of Scamps adult nightclub and three dancers who allegedly posed nude for photographs with patrons, Police Chief James Cook said Friday. Cook said undercover police officers witnessed the alleged violations July 11, July 18 and Aug. 1. Although Scamps, at 7000 Garden Grove Blvd., is licensed to operate as an adult cabaret, police said, nude dancers must be separated from the audience under the city's municipal code.

Acting on complaints from citizens and the police, the City Council voted unanimously to revoke the conditional-use permit under which the controversial Mr. Barry's nightclub has operated since 1977. The council voted 5 to 0 Monday night to uphold an April 19 decision by the Planning Commission, which voted unanimously to revoke the permit.

Homeowner opposition is mounting against a proposed nightclub and pool hall on Corbin Avenue just south of Nordhoff Street. A Los Angeles zoning official in April denied applicant Douglas Noecker a city permit to open the nightclub, which would feature bands and DJ music, sell alcoholic beverages and admit patrons as young as 18.

Almost three years after the teen nightclub Club Post Nuclear shut down, a group of out-of-state businessmen will ask permission Wednesday night to open another nightclub at the Laguna Canyon Road site. Members of The Entertainment Group, an Arizona corporation, will ask the Planning Commission for a permit for the club, which would include a cafe and a video bar. The nightclub would operate Friday and Saturday nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
