In an effort to make it harder to deal drugs in the community, a North Hills citizens group today plans to seek community support for a proposal that would make sections of Orion and Langdon avenues into one-way streets. The one-way proposal will be discussed at a 6 p.m. meeting of the North Hills Community Coordinating Council at Langdon Avenue Elementary School at 8817 Langdon Ave. An earlier meeting, to discuss ways to fund education and crime-prevention programs, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

The Los Angeles City Council this week ordered the removal of five traffic barricades that have hindered crime-fighting efforts in a North Hills neighborhood, according to City Councilman Richard Alarcon. The barriers were installed about 10 years ago in the area around the intersections of Nordhoff Street and Columbus Avenue, and Parthenia Street and Columbus. "I'm very pleased that the barriers are finally coming down," said Alarcon, who proposed the barricades' removal.

About 30 residents Tuesday night backed the plan at a meeting sponsored by the North Hills Community Coordinating Council, which sought the support before presenting the proposal to City Councilman Richard Alarcon.
