The northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed Tuesday by a landslide between Coastline Drive and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, but traffic was still getting through, Caltrans officials said. The northbound lanes will remain closed until further notice, but temporary concrete barriers were placed in the median to route all traffic to the southbound lanes, which will allow one lane of traffic in each direction.

What's more complicated than Carmageddon and could seriously mess with the flow of Angelenos' long Presidents' Day weekend? It's Jamzilla. That's the monster-evoking moniker that transportation officials have adopted for the 405 Freeway lane closures slated to begin late Friday, just in time for the post-Valentine's-Day dinner rush. For 80 hours - from about 10 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Tuesday - most or all lanes on the busy northbound side of the freeway will be closed. The shutdowns through the Sepulveda Pass will allow workers to pave and re-stripe the highway where a carpool lane is being added.

The demolition of a 50-year-old connector bridge is moving along so well that Caltrans plans to reopen a four-mile stretch of the southbound 405 Freeway in Orange County between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday, several hours ahead of schedule, officials said. The construction work forced the shutdown, starting at 9 p.m. Saturday, of the 405 Freeway between the 605 and 22 freeways as well as the northbound 405 at Valley View Street. David Richardson, a Caltrans spokesman, said that the northbound lanes of the 405 would reopen between 2 p.m. and 3 pm. The last portion of the bridge was knocked down at 5:30 a.m., and steel plates placed on the freeway to protect the roadway from 3,600 tons of falling concrete were being removed, Davidson said.

Caltrans announced that two lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway will reopen later this afternoon for the first time since a tanker truck fire at the freeway's junction with the 2 Freeway on Saturday. But officials said they are still not sure when all lanes in the interchange will reopen. Officials said the tunnel where the tanker caught fire suffered serious structural damage. The closure of the northbound 5 Freeway - a major north-south route - has jammed traffic. Caltrans workers on Monday worked to build a temporary support structure in the small tunnel where an overturned tanker truck dumped 8,500 gallons of gasoline, which ignited into a massive fire this weekend.
