James Taylor, a longtime Nuclear Regulatory Commission official, has been named the agency's executive director for operations, NRC Chairman Kenneth Carr announced Friday.

The Senate confirmed the nomination of Shirley Ann Jackson, a Rutgers University physicist, to a five-year term to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The nomination was approved by voice vote Thursday night.

Philadelphia Electric Co. has paid $75,000 in fines imposed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for violating federal safety standards at two nuclear plants last winter, the company said Wednesday.
