Promoter Promoted: Arlene Eisenstadt-Kaye, marketing director for Laguna Hills Mall, has been promoted to regional marketing director for the O'Connor Group, a New York-based mall owner and operator. She joined the O'Connor Group in 1990. In her new post she'll oversee marketing programs at Laguna Hills Mall, the Promenade at Woodland Hills, Anaheim Plaza (which is being renovated) and Mission Center in Sherwood Gardens, Calif. She'll also oversee three malls in Texas.

Laguna Hills Mall has been purchased by the O'Connor Group, a real estate investment firm headquartered in New York. The purchase of the 808,450-square-foot mall for an undisclosed sum was completed last week, said Paul Kastner, an O'Connor group spokesman. The shopping center was one of eight retail properties purchased in Southern California by the East Coast firm, which also bought The Promenade in Woodland Hills.

There is still a 25% vacancy rate at the Promenade at Woodland Hills, but things are only getting better, claims its owner, the O'Connor Group. The hard-luck mall caters to affluent shoppers--but the problem for some time has been that there have not been enough of them. Bullock's, a division of R.H. Macy & Co., became one of the mall's anchor tenants on Nov. 10 when it moved into a building vacated by Robinson's last year.

The company that owns Laguna Hills Mall will soon begin a multimillion-dollar renovation of the 70-acre regional shopping center that was built during the 1970s. The remodeling, which is expected to draw a number of new retailers, will be completed by the fall of 1994, mall Manager Jonathan Alpert said at a press conference Thursday.

The Promenade Mall in Woodland Hills has been sold for an undisclosed price to a New York investor group. The 600,000-square-foot mall, which is anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, Bullocks Wilshire and Robinson's, was sold by Pan-American Properties to Shopping Center Associates. Included in the sale were the Laguna Hills Mall in Orange County and six community shopping centers in California, Arizona and Washington.

R.H. Macy & Co. will open a temporary Bullock's department store clearance outlet Oct. 11 at the troubled Anaheim Plaza, mall managers said Tuesday. The outlet--at the former site of a Robinson's department store--is only scheduled to stay open for about five weeks. But mall officials hope the drawing power of the Bullock's Close Out center will draw shoppers to the mall's smaller stores.

The Professional Dancers Society will present 1993 Gypsy Awards to veteran musical stars Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller at its seventh annual awards luncheon Sunday at the Century Plaza. Donald O'Connor, the group's new president, will preside. Proceeds from the event will go toward a goal of establishing a retirement home for professional dancers, and also provide a relief program for dancers in immediate need.

AMC Theatres plans a March 29 grand opening for a 16-plex theater at the Promenade at Woodland Hills. The 3,000-seat AMC Promenade 16 Theatres will be one of the largest in the Valley, second only to the 18-screen Cineplex Odeon in Universal City. The new theater, at Oxnard Street and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, will create about 200 full- and part-time jobs, said Michael Strle, vice president/group manager for the New York City-based O'Connor Group, which owns the mall.
