When celebrity egos clash, things can get ugly. Could that help explain the brawl that allegedly took place between Chris Brown and Frank Ocean involving a dispute over a parking space at a West Hollywood recording studio? L.A. County Sheriff's detectives say they want to question Brown about the dust-up that reportedly occurred Sunday night in the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, during which Brown allegedly punched Ocean, officials said. A sheriff's spokesman, Steve Whitmore, said it wasn't yet clear whether the reported incident "rose to the level of an alleged assault.

Big, bigger, biggest is not what cruising is all about in 2013. In fact, most of this year's new ships are designed for river cruising, carrying fewer than 200 passengers. Woodland Hills-based Viking River Cruises leads the way, introducing 10 new longships on its European routes - with eight more coming in 2014. River cruising is so popular, said Carolyn Spencer Brown, editor in chief of CruiseCritic.com, that "they're running out of rivers. " Well, not quite, but it's no longer just the usual suspects.

The Atlantic Ocean Reports from Britain and America Andrew O'Hagan Mariner: 354 pp., $15.95 paper The British writer Andrew O'Hagan is probably best known in the United States for his fiction; his novels include "Our Fathers," "Personality" and "Be Near Me," which was long-listed for the Man Booker and won a 2008 Los Angeles Times Book Prize. And yet his first book, "The Missing" (1996), is one of those great, unheralded works of nonfiction, blending reportage with a point of view so personal, so idiosyncratic, that it blurs the lines of genre in an unanticipated way. A meditation on what it means it be "missing," it is less about the criminal, or legal, ramifications of its subject than an inquiry into disappearance in both the physical and philosophical sense.

A 3,000-foot green stripe that appeared on Santa Monica's Ocean Park Boulevard last week marks another step in the beach city's quest to become more bike- and pedestrian-friendly. The stripe between Neilson Way and Lincoln Boulevard marks out space for the city's many cyclists in a color that's hard to miss. But the city's first distinctively colored bike lane is only one aspect of Santa Monica's larger "Complete Green Street" project that has been in the works for years. In addition to the green stripe, the $4-million project adds nearly 50 pedestrian lighting poles and more than 75 freshly planted trees to the eight-block stretch of Ocean Park Boulevard, said Peter James, a senior city planner.

The long-hoped-for OutKast reunion finally materialized (in a way) Friday night with the release of Frank Ocean's "Pink Matter" remix, which features appearances by both members of the influential Atlanta rap duo. The song premiered on hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson's East Village Radio show , and though we can't post it here due to some naughty language, you can hear it now on Big Boi's SoundCloud page. Last year Big Boi revealed that he was supposed to join Andre 3000 on the original version of "Pink Matter," a slow-rolling cut from Ocean's Grammy-nominated "Channel Orange" album.

- One night as my sister and I walked across the rugged yet strangely delicate terrain of a place called Farm 215, the path to our cottage lighted only by the stars and a flashlight, the wine-wobbly beam suddenly illuminated several sets of legs. A moment of what the ...? And then we realized that we were standing in the middle of a small herd of horses, including two mares and their foals, that roam the South African eco-retreat outside Gansbaai. It was a perfect mother-child moment and a symbol of new beginnings in this Southern Hemisphere spring.

R&B star Frank Ocean, the Odd Future member whose solo debut “Channel Orange” topped many critics' lists of the best albums of 2012, capped the year in a less-than-celebratory way: He was pulled over for speeding and cited for pot possession in Northern California. Ocean, whose given name is Christopher Breaux, was stopped by California Highway Patrol and Mono County sheriff's officers on New Year's Eve after they observed his black BMW speeding on U.S. Highway 395, according to Mono County Sheriff's public information officer Jennifer Hansen.
