Come New Year's Day 2000, amateur cyclist Cathy Behm will trade in her usual bike route--from her home here to Laguna Beach and back--for a much longer stretch: a ride around the Earth. Behm, 36, is joining Odyssey 2000, believed to be the largest group ever to embark on a bike ride around the world. The international team of 250 cyclists will cover 20,000 miles in a year, traveling about 77 miles a day, roughly the distance from Huntington Beach to San Diego.

The Edison High School Grad Night Committee is calling on parents to help with "Odyssey 2000" on June 15. For the last 13 years, Grad Night coordinators have provided a drug- and alcohol-free all-night party for graduating seniors. "To make this successful, we decorate the gyms, provide entertainment and prizes and serve lots of food," said Grad Night Committee member Gayle Swain. "It takes an enormous amount of parent participation, but the end results are well worth the effort."

The city of Memphis was a proving ground for rock 'n' roll some 50 years ago, and it was the recording home of everyone from Howlin' Wolf and B.B. King to Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes and the rest of the legendary Stax Records acts. Despite this rich musical history, Memphis has largely been overlooked as a talent pool for modern music. Three 6 Mafia hopes to change that.
