A Chatsworth woman was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse after authorities found her 85-year-old mother, who later died, covered head to toe in her own waste, a Los Angeles police spokeswoman said Sunday. Belinda Feldman, 54, was arrested at the home she shared with her mother. Elise Glatstein died 11 hours after authorities took her to a hospital. Police went to the house in the 21900 block of Dupont Street on Saturday after receiving a call about Glatstein. Officers found her in her bedroom in "very poor condition," Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

A security guard found the body with a gunshot wound to the head in the 1600 block of Pacific Coast Highway shortly after midnight Sunday, said Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department. Five people standing on a South Los Angeles street were shot -- one fatally -- Monday evening by gunmen who fired from a dark blue SUV and fled, authorities said. A 45-year-old man died, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Division. Officer Karen Smith, an LAPD spokeswoman, said a Chevy Blazer carrying at least two people opened fire about 5:30 p.m. on the group standing outside at 132 W. 70th St. Police were still searching for the suspects late Monday.

An Amber Alert was issued Sunday after a man allegedly shot his estranged wife and kidnapped his sons in Sunland. According to Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Po- lice Department, the mother dropped off her two sons at her estranged husband's home in the 10400 block of McBroom Street, about 10:40 a.m. Police said the couple argued and the man shot his wife at least 13 times, but she was able to speak before being taken to a hospital....

An unlicensed 18-year-old driver was arrested on hit-and-run charges Wednesday after he lost control of a car and hit five Reseda High School students, authorities said. The driver was identified as Joshua Raymond Caballero of Reseda. Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department said Caballero was an unlicensed driver who took his mother's car while she was sleeping, picked up some friends and drove them to school.

A suspected drunk driver fleeing a hit-and-run accident ran a red light and struck another vehicle, killing two people and injuring a pedestrian, a Los Angeles police spokesman said Sunday. The driver, identified as Jose Onesimo Cruz, 37, was arrested on suspicion of homicide, said LAPD Officer Karen Smith. The collision occurred at 10:40 p.m. Saturday at Slauson and Hooper avenues, police said. The victims were not identified pending notification of their relatives, police said.

A gunman armed with a semiautomatic weapon shot and wounded a man Tuesday afternoon outside a Ralphs supermarket, authorities said. The victim was shot in the leg, said Officer Karen Smith of the Los Angeles Police Department. It appears that the victim and the suspect have "a relationship, but we don't know yet what that could be," Smith said. The suspect was described as in his early to mid-20s and was accompanied by another man.
