Tenneco to Buy State Pipelines: The Houston oil company will buy South Australia's gas pipeline utility for about $220 million and then sell off up to 40% of it to local partners, the Australian government announced. State Premier Dean Brown said Tenneco Inc. had won the bidding to acquire the Pipelines Authority of South Australia, or PASA, which was put on the market last year.

Chevron Corp. has reached an agreement giving it pipeline access to land claimed by several thousand Aborigines in Australia, the company said. However, several obstacles to construction of the $1.4-billion project remain. The deal with representatives of some 70 Aboriginal groups includes a promise from Chevron to fund job-training and business-development opportunities, though no cash payments will be made to the groups.
