The Ojai Valley Sanitary District voted Tuesday to hike sewer service rates by as much as 30% to cover the cost of renovating the area's dilapidated sewer system. Starting next month, 11,000 homeowners who now pay about $220 a year with their property taxes will be billed an estimated $45 to $72, said Eric Oltman, sanitary district general manager. The new revenue will help pay for upgrading the area's 66-year-old sewer system, Oltman said. The renovations are scheduled to begin next month.
