Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford will have season-ending shoulder surgery and expects to make himself available for the NFL draft. The Oklahoma quarterback injured his right (throwing) shoulder twice this season, most recently against Texas on Oct. 10. The school announced Sunday that Dr. James Andrews will perform the operation Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala. Bradford is expected to address reporters after the Sooners' practice tonight in Norman, Okla. "I dreamed about coming to Oklahoma my whole life," Bradford said Sunday in a statement.

The NFL's first prime-time draft was a huge night for the Big 12 and an enormous one for Big No. 15. The first is a conference — the Big 12 contributed nine first-round picks — and the other is Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, a stunning pick by the Denver Broncos. While Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen and Texas' Colt McCoy stared at their cellphones, the Broncos traded back into the first round — giving up picks in the second, third and fourth — to get a not-ready-for-prime-time player.

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford says surgery remains a possibility to repair his sprained right shoulder, depending on how his recovery goes. Bradford, who won the Heisman Trophy last season, said Tuesday he hopes he can play Saturday against Baylor (3-1) to get a game under his belt before the annual rivalry battle against No. 2 Texas. Bradford said he still intends to try to come back this season, and he's still holding out hope that the 19th-ranked Sooners (2-2) could get back into the national championship race if they win out. Bradford has sat out Oklahoma's last three games because of a sprained AC joint in his right, throwing shoulder.

Bradford, 6 feet 4, 218 pounds and the 2008 Heisman Trophy winner, started all 31 games in which he appeared for the Sooners, setting school records by completing 67.64% of his passes (604-of-893) for 8,403 yards and 88 touchdowns. Considering Blake Griffin is also from Oklahoma, it marks the second time both the NFL and NBA top picks come from the same school.

DALLAS -- Since he's only 19 and was playing his sixth college game, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford can be excused for thinking he can do things most quarterbacks wouldn't even try. Such as calling an audible on third and 14 from his 12 amid the roar of Texas fans. Or going long on third down to a guy who spent the last few series getting treatment for a sore hamstring. Then again, Bradford is proving to be not-your-ordinary quarterback.

The top two quarterbacks at the NFL scouting combine both have something to prove. Oklahoma's Sam Bradford wants to show his shoulder can handle the rigors of pro football. Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen wants to prove he can shoulder the responsibility of being a leader -- and shrug off his reputation for being arrogant and smug. "Some people say I'm cocky, I'm arrogant, I'm not a good leader, I'm not a good teammate," Westlake Village's Clausen said Saturday. "I think the people who are out there saying those things really don't know me as a person.

One day after this season's Heisman Trophy winner quietly slipped into an interview room, looking like an Oklahoma fan dressed in a Sam Bradford jersey, the previous season's Heisman winner made a star-studded, security-escorted entrance onto a Sunday center stage. "Get off the podium!" a man with a dark suit, wearing an earpiece, bellowed at reporters who were angling for position to hear Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. What, no bomb-sniffing dogs? No one said whether this man was from U.N.C.L.

A quarterback will be the first player selected in this week's NFL draft, but this could be remembered as the year of big men, blind-side blockers, and (attempted) bailouts. Whereas the St. Louis Rams already might have stitched the name of Sam Bradford on a No. 1 jersey, there's a decent chance the Oklahoma quarterback is the only skill-position player to go in the top 10. The top of the draft, which begins Thursday, will be dominated by 300-pounders on the defensive and offensive lines, and there could be a run on offensive tackles that rivals the flurry of 2008, when teams grabbed seven of them in the first round.

It has been 30 years since a University of Oklahoma player was selected first in the NFL draft — Detroit made running back Billy Sims the top pick in 1980 — but in 2010 a Sooner will go soonest. The St. Louis Rams will hand Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford a cap and No. 1 jersey and introduce him as the future of their franchise. That's the way Times NFL writer Sam Farmer sees it, at least, in his first mock draft of the post-combine, pre-draft season. A lot can change between now and the draft, which takes place April 22-24 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Max Hall threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to McKay Jacobson in the back of the end zone with 3 minutes 3 seconds left, giving No. 20-ranked Brigham Young a 14-13 victory over No. 3 Oklahoma on Saturday night in front of 75,437 at Cowboys Stadium. The Sooners' last hope to recover ended when Tress Way came up short on a 54-yard field goal with 1:23 to play. Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford, the Heisman Trophy winner last season, sprained his throwing shoulder when he was tackled by linebacker Coleby Clawson in the closing seconds of the first half.
