EMI Group, which is merging its music unit with Time Warner Inc. to form the world's biggest record company, said it will join On-Line Entertainment Network Inc. to offer pay-per-view concerts and other programs on the Internet. On-Line Entertainment, part of Chatsworth-based GlobalNet Systems Ltd., will be EMI's recommended technology partner, although the deal is not exclusive. EMI will receive equity in On-Line and a small stake in GlobalNet. Exact terms weren't disclosed.

Set 30,000 years into the future, the video game Anarchy Online seems an unlikely place to see billboards advertising the newest CD by Motley Crue or the "Family Guy" on DVD. But such ads are increasingly showing up in the virtual realm of video games as corporations pursue potential customers into their escapist fantasies.

Young women's fiction is booming--thanks to Helen Fielding and her scatty heroine, Bridget Jones. And the latest Brit wit to arrive on the literary scene is 31-year-old author Anna Maxted, whose take on the genre is "comedy with a serious twist." The characters in her debut novel deal with death and domestic violence, among delicious bouts of shopping, male bashing and cocktails with the girls.
