In California, 4.6 million public school students in grades two through 11 took the Stanford 9 standardized tests this spring--for the fifth year in a row. All of them were tested in reading, math and language skills such as grammar and punctuation. Students through eighth grade also took a spelling test, and students in higher grades took exams in science and history/social science.

Orange County Report Card In California, about 4.5 million public school students in grades 2 through 11 took tests last spring tied to the state's academic standards in English/language arts, math, science and history/social science. For the first time, students also took the California Achievement Test/Sixth Edition, known as the CAT/6. That compared students against a national sample in reading, language skills, math, spelling and science.

Already the largest and longest-running children's festival in the Western United States--it spans 16 days at 48 venues and attracts nearly half a million visitors--the festival this year coincides with Cinco de Mayo, the Mexican holiday. What better for an event whose theme is "Art Across Cultures"?
