Watch out for Long Beach Poly now that the Jackrabbits have survived their usual playoff scare. Orange Lutheran dropped a punt in the final two minutes, allowing Poly to rally for an 18-16 victory in a Pac-5 opener. Orange Lutheran had a 16-12 lead. The Lancers tried to get off a punt and couldn't do it late in the fourth quarter. Poly, seeded No. 3 in the tournament, took over inside the 10-yard line. Christian Pabico caught the winning touchdown pass from Josh Love with 1:43 left.

Friday's top high school football playoff games: Anaheim Servite (5-5) at Westlake Village Westlake (8-2), 7:30 p.m. (Fox Sports West Prep Zone): Teams with lots of talented underclassmen meet in a Pac-5 Division playoff opener. Marmonte League champion Westlake is on a six-game winning streak fueled by a defense that has been shutting down good offenses. Sophomore quarterback Malik Henry has played solidly while trying to avoid mistakes. Servite, having faced the toughest schedule of any team in Southern California, should be ready for playoff pressure.

Win or lose, Harry Welch could see his legendary high school coaching career come to an end on Friday night when his Santa Margarita team faces JSerra at Saddleback College. Santa Margarita is 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the Trinity League. There's all kinds of scenarios and help the Eagles will need to get a Pac-5 Division playoff spot. Winning will keep them in the mix, but there's also a distinct possibility it will be Welch's final game. He announced before the season that he intended to retire as a coach at the end of this season.
