At 99, Stella King was surprised to be honored as the eldest guest at the annual Orange Senior Center luncheon for men and women over 80. While insisting that she knew people who were at least a month or two older, King offered secrets to her own longevity. "I've always been happy, I think that's part of it. I've had a wonderful life, so when my time comes, I don't have any regrets," said King, a resident of the Fountain Retirement Center.

The Orange County Area Agency on Aging will hold a series of meetings next month to bring together senior citizens who are seeking roommates. The purpose of the program is to match seniors from all areas of Orange County who are finding it financially difficult to live alone. The program has helped find shared housing for 8,000 people since 1978, according to agency officials.

Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be issued that can be used to qualify for lower-cost auto insurance. The fee for the course, taught in two four-hour sessions, is $8. Shuffleboard? Ho hum. Checkers? Gimme a break. Well, how about softball, tennis and volleyball? Orange County seniors can choose from among a wide variety of activities. Senior centers offer summer outdoor activities for everyone's taste, whether looking to get some exercise or socialize. "This is the way the world goes now," said Nancy Herrmann, community services supervisor at the Mission Viejo Recreation Center.
