The Oregon State student booster section had it all wrong: Never taunt Stanford's Julius Barnes by calling him "Juli." "They didn't realize that that's what the coaches call me on the floor," Barnes said. "It's an abbreviation." Barnes responded with a career-high 33 points and the No. 25 Cardinal defeated Oregon State, 84-73, on Sunday. Stanford, 17-6 overall, 8-3 in the Pacific 10 Conference, has won eight of its last 10, but was coming off a 79-64 loss to Oregon on Thursday night.

Record vs. opponent: 66-57. Update: Like USC, which nearly dug itself out of a 20-point hole against Oregon on Thursday, the Beavers faced a huge deficit on the same day, trailing UCLA by 17. Both came close, but failed to complete a comeback.

Mike Stutes gave up two runs and three hits in eight innings and defending national champion Oregon State advanced to the College World Series with an 8-2 victory over Michigan on Monday night. Darwin Barney had three hits and three runs batted in for the Beavers (44-18), who'll play Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. It's Oregon State's third consecutive trip to Omaha, where it won six elimination games before beating North Carolina for the title last year.

Salim Stoudamire made a school-record nine three-point baskets and scored 31 points in his final home game, and No. 10 Arizona won its sixth in a row by routing Oregon State, 91-70, on Sunday. Channing Frye had 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Wildcats increased their lead over Washington in the Pacific 10 Conference after improving to 23-4 and 13-2. Hassan Adams had 13 points and tied his season high with 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, who finished 15-1 at home.
