Reporting from Corvallis, Ore. This time it wasn't close. USC was in the habit of spotting Oregon State big halftime and third-quarter leads at Reser Stadium, only to rally and then fall short. But on Saturday night, the Trojans could not even manage that. Oregon State walloped No. 20 USC from start to finish en route to a 36-7 victory that continued the Beavers' recent dominance over the Trojans on their home turf. On a chilly night in the Northwest, Oregon State built a 20-0 lead, knocked USC quarterback Matt Barkley out of the game because of a high ankle sprain just before halftime and cruised to its third consecutive home victory over the Trojans.

UCLA appears to be facing an Oregon State team chock-full of eager Beavers. Oregon State has played only once in three weeks, as its opener against Nicholls State postponed. The Beavers are coming off a bye week. “I love hitting people,” Oregon State defensive end Dylan Wynn told the Oregonian. “I love just being on the field and not getting in trouble for hitting people. The more away from it you are, the more you want it. " Oregon State manhandled Wisconsin, 10-7, in its only game.

If you don't like Mike Riley you don't like ice cream or dogs. The man who could have been USC's coach at least once has comfortably settled into Corvallis, Ore. He is 60 now and the Pac-12's longest tenured coach entering his 13th year. Riley played for tough-guy Bear Bryant at Alabama, but he is really more like a teddy bear. While other coaches become more paranoid, closing down ranks and shuttering doors, Riley welcomes everyone into his practices. Last year, after Oregon State beat UCLA at the Rose Bowl, Riley treated the entire team to In-N-Out burgers.

The Oregon State student booster section had it all wrong: Never taunt Stanford's Julius Barnes by calling him "Juli." "They didn't realize that that's what the coaches call me on the floor," Barnes said. "It's an abbreviation." Barnes responded with a career-high 33 points and the No. 25 Cardinal defeated Oregon State, 84-73, on Sunday. Stanford, 17-6 overall, 8-3 in the Pacific 10 Conference, has won eight of its last 10, but was coming off a 79-64 loss to Oregon on Thursday night.
