As the spring social season gets underway, make no mistake: Angelenos are generous with their support of good causes, and they certainly enjoy a good party. But nowadays, it takes more than a fancy dinner to attract a crowd. The watchword for today's fundraisers is “fun” - with “fresh” and “original” also part of the lexicon. This is especially true if the objective is to reach the up-and-coming younger demographic. The good news is that much of what's ahead on L.A.'s social scene handily fits the bill.

Premiering Tuesday night on Fox after "American Idol," Osbournes Reloaded" -- or as I like to think of it, "Osbournes Satyricon" -- brought the self-proclaimed "first family of being . . . up" into what had been described as variety. It is not variety of the singing/dancing/plate-spinning sort, however, but a series of stunts and pranks interlaced with taped comedy bits that play off the Osbournes' image as rude, crude and lewd -- in an expensively dressed sort of way -- and not fit for normal life.

Sharon Osbourne set most of the record straight Tuesday on "The Talk," bringing up her recent marital struggles with husband Ozzy Osbourne and declaring in no uncertain terms that they are not getting divorced. “Everybody knows he's been struggling with this [substance abuse] his entire life and I never knew that he was using prescription drugs. I knew he was drinking occasionally, but I didn't realize to the extent. It's our business - we're dealing with it; we're not getting divorced.

Ozzy Osbourne and the Sunset Strip will be reunited in a big way next weekend as the Sunset Strip Music Festival kicks off Thursday night with a special tribute event to the metal legend at the House of Blues. Ozzy will cap the three-day fest on Saturday night with a performance on one of the two outdoor stages on the Strip, which will be blocked off -- a rare event not seen in recent memory -- between Doheny and San Vicente. It's been nearly 40 years since Ozzy has performed a full set on the Strip.

Like anyone else, Ozzy Osbourne would like some privacy when he's using the john. It's simple courtesy. So the 12 cameras recording "real life" in the Osbourne home six days a week discreetly look away when Ozzy--or someone in the family--is called to the water closet. Television can't get enough of reality--or what it imagines is reality--these days, whether in the form of survivors, moles or big brothers. But if it's reality you want, wouldn't you say a man sitting on a commode is about as real as it gets?
