Kennedy High School's Mike Williams was noticeably absent for most of the second half Friday night in the semifinals of the Santiago Holiday Tournament, which is a bit unusual considering Williams is the Irish's second tallest player. The 6-foot 4-inch center, who had eight points in the first half, had attempted only two shots and was shut out in the second half. But he came to life in the overtime period, scoring all four of Kennedy's points in a 68-66 victory against Bolsa Grande.

It was the second straight win for New York. The Islanders also ended the Capitals' winning streak at six. "We were right on the cusp of getting some wins," New York Coach Scott Gordon said.

Playing hard for one period isn't enough to earn a win, even for a team with Detroit's talent. However, a late surge after 40 minutes of frustration was enough to earn the Red Wings a point. Luc Robitaille's unassisted goal late in the third period lifted Detroit into a 3-3 tie with the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night and extended the Red Wings' unbeaten string to four games. Detroit survived a Minnesota power play in the overtime after Brendan Shanahan was called for hooking.
