Industry giant Lennar Corp. has reached a tentative agreement to acquire privately held Pacific Century Homes of Temecula in a deal that would create one of the Southland's biggest home builders. The move would allow Lennar to expand its Southern California base, largely in San Diego and Orange counties, and become a dominant player in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, analysts said.

* Avery Dennison Corp. raised its forecast for second-quarter profit because of strong sales growth, more stable pricing and improved productivity. For the fourth year in a row, Kaufman & Broad Home Corp. tops the list of largest Southland home builders, according to The Times' 26th annual Survey of Residential Building in Southern California. K&B built 2,173 single-family homes, 867 apartments and 134 condos in Southern California in 1996, generating $413.7 million in revenue.
