What a boomerang of a few years it has been for Matt Flynn. The former Green Bay backup quarterback has re-signed with the Packers after a series of false starts with Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo. Flynn will back up Scott Tolzien, a promoted practice-squad player who was bumped up because of injuries to starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Seneca Wallace. In his previous go-round with the Packers, Flynn backed up Rodgers and won a Super Bowl ring after the 2010 season. He caught the eye of other teams that season when he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns in a Week 16 game against Detroit.

Story line: Detroit has lost 20 consecutive games at Lambeau Field, and given where the team's at mentally - following a fourth-quarter collapse against the Indianapolis Colts last week - there's not cause for an upset. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is 7-1 against the Lions, and the loss came when he was sidelined a concussion in 2010. The outcome probably will be decided by Rodgers, considering the Packers' ineffective run game and their offensive line missing two starters.

The bad news is you may have to do something to help the circulation in your extremities, because that feeling of pins and needles may last awhile.

Back when he was an assistant coach for the Packers, Steve Mariucci used to combat the cold during games by holding quarterback meetings in the sauna. (An added perk: There was only a sauna only in the home team's locker room.) [Sam is checking whether this is still true, but he may not find out in time for deadline. ac] Both teams could certainly use that dash of comfort Sunday, when the temperature is expected to dip well below zero. Thermometer aside, the 49ers have been torrid lately, finishing the regular season with an NFL-best six-game winning streak.
