A 17-year-old fell asleep at the wheel and crashed her car head-on into another vehicle, killing an 80-year-old Pearblossom man and critically injuring his wife, authorities said Wednesday. The crash at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on California 138 just east of Pearblossom took the life of Henry Pingry. His wife, 69, was in critical condition at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center.

Sheriff's deputies were continuing their investigation Monday into a two-vehicle weekend accident that killed a 20-year-old Littlerock man and seriously injured a 17-year-old Palmdale youth. The 17-year-old lost control of his van Sunday afternoon while heading north on 47th Street East in Palmdale, deputies said. The van slid across the road near the intersection of Avenue S and hit a pickup truck driven by Leslie Chenard, 34, of Hesperia, according to authorities. Chenard was unhurt.

A 51-year-old Lancaster man died early Tuesday when he ran a red light and his vehicle collided with a truck at a downtown intersection, authorities said. Vincent Modica was taken to Palmdale Hospital Medical Center where he died from his injuries at 6:40 a.m., a hospital spokeswoman said. The accident happened as Modica drove south on Sierra Highway and ran a red light at the intersection with Palmdale Boulevard, said Deputy Sheriff Ed Grantham. James Tippit, 40, of Little Rock, Ark.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies arrested a Palmdale man Saturday morning who allegedly chased his ex-wife's boyfriend into a back yard and shot him repeatedly, deputies said. Richard Allen Dean, 34, was being held without bail on suspicion of murder at the Antelope Valley Sheriff's Station in Lancaster. At about 6:30 a.m.

Two sisters who operate board-and-care facilities in the Antelope Valley were arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges involving the care of an elderly patient who died, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said. Mattie Brown, 44, and her sister, Ann Parsons, 48, both of Littlerock, were charged with permitting the patient's health to suffer and his life to be endangered while he was under their care.

A man working on a drilling rig near Palmdale died of electric shock after equipment he was operating struck a power line, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said today. Scott Rounds, 24, of Oxnard died at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center about 4 p.m. Wednesday. He had been taken there by a co-worker after a drilling rig he was operating struck and knocked down a power line in a field near Elizabeth Lake Road and Bouquet Canyon in Leona Valley, deputies said.

A Los Angeles man was shot by gang members early Sunday morning while visiting friends in the Antelope Valley, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. Following an argument with at least two men, Donald Garcia, 19, was shot once in the chest at about 2 a.m. while standing in the front yard of a house near 22nd Street East and Avenue Q-6 in Palmdale, Sgt. Joe Dymerski said. Garcia was in critical condition Sunday evening at Palmdale Hospital Medical Center.

Two men were shot over the weekend after a dozen gang members threw up a roadblock in Palmdale and trapped the victims, authorities said. Marshal Tyree, 21, of Palmdale and Jason Gotcher, 18, of Quartz Hill were treated and released from Palmdale Hospital Medical Center after suffering bullet wounds in the Saturday night shooting, Los Angeles Sheriff's Lt. Daniel Castillo said.

A Palmdale teen-ager was killed and three others were injured when the car in which they were riding veered out of control and rolled over, authorities said Friday. Tiffany Daproza, 14, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at 5:50 p.m. Thursday on Avenue P, just east of 10th Street East. The driver of the car, Scott Ibbotson, 20, of Palmdale was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving.

A high school English teacher who became ill after drinking a soda laced with cleaning fluid will remain in a Palmdale hospital for another night, hospital officials said Saturday. Susan Ennis felt a burning sensation in her throat and then vomited during class Thursday morning at Littlerock High School after she drank from a can of soda.
