Some local equestrians made the legendary trek down Colorado Boulevard at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade for the 13th time. Ten employees of Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament were the 30th group to trot down the parade route. They rode Andalusian stallions, wore period costumes and carried authentic Spanish weaponry.

Alternative Rose Parade Commentary: KLSX-FM (97.1) radio personality Frazer Smith will once again provide some irreverent coverage of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade this year. Smith tells his listeners to turn down the volume on their television sets and then provides his own interpretation of the New Year's Day parade. Comedian Peter Crabbe is expected to join Smith, and the two will provide commentary as, among other characters, the Party Vikings Leif and Sven.

Norman Philip Wadell, 45, Emmy Award-winning television art director. For the past 13 years, Wadell worked for CBS in Los Angeles and most recently served as art director of the CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless." A native of Newark, N.J., he graduated from Kean College in New Jersey and earned a master of fine arts degree from New York University.

The La Canada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. is having its annual fund-raiser, "An Evening of Wine and Roses," on Nov. 7. Proceeds will be used to construct and decorate the association's 16th entry into the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Jan. 1. The 1994 Rose Queen and Court will be at the fund-raiser. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the La Canada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive. Reservations are $25 per person and $30 at the door.

Former astronaut Edwin E. (Buzz) Aldrin Jr.--second man to step foot on the moon--will be the grand marshal of Huntington Beach's annual Fourth of July parade. Aldrin will be joined in the city's 83rd annual parade by Disneyland characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, city officials said. Other parade attractions include the U. S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, which has participated in Pasadena's Tournament of Roses parade. The band is based at March Air Force Base near Riverside.

Sen. John Glenn (D-Ohio), grand marshal of the 1990 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, dropped by the Tournament House on Orange Grove Boulevard Monday to "straighten out" any doubters who might have questioned his integrity, he said. Glenn and four other senators are being investigated by a special counsel of the Senate Ethics Committee.

For the first time in the history of Pasadena's Tournament of Roses Parade, Southern California Edison will sponsor a non-polluting float that is completely powered by electricity on New Year's Day. Lewis M. Phelps, Edison's vice president of corporate communications, said engineers of the Rosemead-based company are providing float builder Fiesta Parade Floats of Azusa with two electric motors, two controllers and two battery packs.

While the U.S. Senate deliberates upon her successor, retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who is grand marshal of the 117th Rose Parade, has some big shoes to fill herself -- very large yellow ones, to be exact -- those of last year's grand marshal, Mickey Mouse. Because New Year's Day falls on a Sunday this year, the Rose Parade will run Monday, and the Rose Bowl Game between USC and the University of Texas -- this year, deciding the national title -- is set for Wednesday.

The Force will certainly be with the 2007 Rose Parade in Pasadena on Monday. Not only is "Star Wars" creator George Lucas this year's grand marshal, but the parade will also feature a "Star Wars Spectacular." The 118th annual event, with the theme "Our Good Nature," begins at 8 a.m. and will feature 45 traditional floral floats, 22 marching bands and 23 equestrian teams.
