Paula Barbieri stayed celibate and waited for O.J. Simpson during his murder trial, but the relationship is now over, she said in an ABC television interview that aired Wednesday. When Simpson called her from a cellular phone in his car on his way home after his Oct. 3 acquittals, she still had faith that they could be together, Barbieri told "PrimeTime Live." But Simpson later suggested that they pose for pictures together and get paid for it, she said.

Simpson strolled through a parking lot at the building where lawyer Daniel Petrocelli's office is located, smiled and stayed close to his bodyguards. Paula Barbieri will not be chatting with Larry King any time soon. Don't look for her to trade quips on "Politically Incorrect." And don't expect her to be signing autographs at celebrity auctions. Aspiring actor and house guest du jour Brian (Kato) Kaelin may be using the furor surrounding the O.J. Simpson murder trial as a vehicle to move into the show-business fast lane.

Here are excerpts from O.J. Simpson's testimony Monday during questioning by plaintiffs' attorney Daniel Petrocelli. PETROCELLI, suggesting that Simpson was lonely the night of the killings and repeatedly called Paula Barbieri for companionship: The truth to the matter is you were desperate to get in touch with Paula because she had left you, true? SIMPSON: False. PETROCELLI: And you tried all day to get in touch with her, call after call after call? SIMPSON: That's not entirely true.

I disagree completely with Garrison Keillor's comments (April 4) about the New Yorker and his response to the Annie Leibovitz photographs in the April 3 issue. I was mildly outraged when I heard she was in town "shooting the Simpson trial." I was annoyed when I saw "The faces of the Simpson trial" in the index of the magazine. But the series says more about what has been going on here than 14 pages of text could have--the chosen shots and how they are arranged are a sad but accurate commentary on a society, the media and a legal system run a muck.
