House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi laughed off the chances of a Mitt Romney presidency, while trumpeting the possibility that Democrats will retake the House of Representatives, during an interview aired Sunday on CNN. Pelosi, speaking with host Candy Crowley on “State of the Union,” pointed to one issue in particular that she thinks will deliver the House to Democrats: Medicare. “We have been saying there are three important issues in this campaign. And in alphabetical order, they are Medicare, Medicare, Medicare,” she said.

WASHINGTON -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, suggested that Mitt Romney sought the boos of disapproval he received in a speech before the NAACP. “I think it was a calculated move on his part to get booed at the NAACP convention,” Pelosi told Bloomberg Television's Peter Cook. Romney's speech before the nation's oldest civil rights organization was punctuated with boos from those gathered at the NAACP's annual convention in Houston on Wednesday, particularly as he criticized the nation's healthcare law championed by President Obama.

WASHINGTON -- As the Republican-led House voted to hold Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. in contempt on Thursday, Democrats led by the Congressional Black Caucus walked out in protest. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), the minority leader, joined the walkout, moving down the steps of the Capitol arm in arm with Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), the legendary civil rights leader. In all, 108 Democrats did not vote. “This is not about oversight, this is about overkill,” Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.)

WASHINGTON - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, the former speaker whose Democratic Party lost control of the chamber after she pushed through the healthcare overhaul, took delight Thursday  in the Supreme Court ruling upholding the law. “Sweetie, we won!” the San Francisco lawmaker said in a call to her husband Paul. Pelosi, whose support for the healthcare overhaul  made her a favorite Republican target in the 2010 election campaign, was in a meeting when she heard word of the ruling.

WASHINGTON -- On this, her 25 th anniversary year in Congress, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), has been feted from coast to coast - including a party with U2 singer Bono earlier this week - but the celebration arrived briefly Thursday on the House floor. The moment was both tender and awkward as House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) noted the milestone for the Californian, who had been the nation's first female speaker - until his party's election gains in 2010 booted her from the job. “The gentle-lady and I have differing political philosophies and we have had some real battles here on the floor,” Boehner said.

As noted in an earlier post , it was somewhat awkward when Republican Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio feted Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on the House floor on the occasion of her 25 th anniversary in Congress.  But Republicans have no one but themselves to blame for the ascension of their nemesis, the representative from San Francisco and erstwhile Speaker of the House. Pelosi, who grew up in a political family in Baltimore, went on to become a leading Democratic luminary in her adopted hometown.

WASHINGTON -- As the battle intensifies over keeping student loan interest rates low, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called the Republican plan to gut a public health fund to pay for it “another assault on women's health.” Republicans want to eliminate what they call a “slush fund” established under the nation's new healthcare law to pay for keeping student loan rates low, and House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) has proposed taking $6 billion from the fund to pay for the costs of avoiding a loan rate hike this summer.
