Mark O'Meara will be the seventh golfer attempting to join Ben Hogan as the only players to win three major championships in a year. The previous attempts at the PGA: 1960--ARNOLD PALMER After winning the Masters and U.S. Open, Palmer shot a first-round 67 to take the lead. Subsequent rounds of 74, 75 and 70 left him tied for seventh. Tournament winner: Jay Hebert. * 1962--ARNOLD PALMER Palmer, who won the Masters and British Open, was never in contention and finished tied for 17th.
