The Naval Air Station is inviting residents to enter its logo competition. Submissions are due Sept. 20. Amateur or professional artists and designers are invited to create a logo incorporating the naval bases at Port Hueneme and Point Mugu. The logo should be designed for use on letterheads, patches, insignias, signs and souvenirs. Suggested themes include naval aviation, port operations or a coastal setting.

After meeting with the command staff at Point Mugu, Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) said Friday he has no reason to believe that a fatal jet crash at the base's annual air show last month is linked to the aircraft's troubled maintenance division.

The profile of the adult or "non-traditional" student (defined as 25 and older) has changed over the past 15 years. Although still primarily female, the average age of the student is now mid-30s instead of mid-40s.
