A woman wanted on suspicion of shooting a mechanic to death in Pacoima was arrested after a 15-mile chase in San Bernardino County, during which 18 shots were fired at a pursuing CHP officer before her auto overturned on a desert road. The officer was not injured and his car was apparently hit by only one bullet during the chase that ended Wednesday night when the suspect's car overturned on a ranch road about 35 miles east of Victorville.

Three teen-agers were arrested in El Monte early Sunday after leading authorities on a high-flying chase in a stolen twin-engine plane, authorities said. Michael Reed and Jeffery Dudgeon, both 18, and a 17-year-old boy whose name was not released, stole a Cessna from Brackett Field in La Verne 30 miles east of Los Angeles late Saturday night, sheriff's deputies said.

A San Bernardino police officer was killed when he and a suspect were struck by a car as they struggled in the street, authorities said Sunday. Officer Robert Shultis, 34, was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, about 35 minutes after he was hit in the 2700 block of North Arrowhead Avenue, Police Sgt. Dan Malone said. Police were still trying to confirm the identity of the suspect injured in the accident.

A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy was seriously wounded in a shoot-out with a forgery suspect who was then killed by the lawman and other officers, authorities said. Deputy Thomas Garcia, 39, of Victorville, was shot at least five times by the suspect, who was armed with a 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun, a Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

An off-duty Fontana police officer was shot in the stomach when he walked out of a local convenience store that may have been targeted for robbery, authorities said Saturday. The 33-year-old officer, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was in fair condition at an area hospital, Fontana police said. The shooting took place shortly after 11 p.m. Friday at a Stop & Go Market in the 16800 block of Slover Avenue, police said.

A sheriff's sergeant fatally shot a man Sunday in a hospital lobby after the man grabbed the officer's baton and struck him several times, authorities said. David Chism, 28, of Yucca Valley died at Hi-Desert Medical Center in the 9 a.m. shooting, said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Rick Carr. The unidentified sheriff's sergeant had been called to the hospital's emergency room response to a disturbance, Carr said.
