Police on Wednesday continued to investigate the death of a child who may have been the victim of a beating, but they made no arrests in the case. An autopsy showed that 14-month-old Felicia Lynn Grunbaum died of massive head injuries about 3 a.m. Wednesday at Humana Hospital-Huntington Beach. Two weekend shootings by law enforcement officers were being investigated Sunday. In one, an off-duty sheriff's deputy wounded a man who tried to rob him as he was leaving for work, authorities said. Hawthorne police said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Damaso Bautista, 21, was dressed in civilian clothes at 4:30 a.m. Sunday when a man with a pistol demanded money. Bautista ran for cover and fired two shots. An 18-year-old man sought treatment later for a gunshot wound at a nearby hospital.

Investigators have still not determined if a 17-year-old who died from a gunshot wound to the head shot himself while playing with a handgun or was shot by someone else, police said Friday. The body of Quy Tung Nguyen of Westminster was found Thursday afternoon inside an apartment in the 13700 block of Edwards Street by officers investigating reports of gunfire, Sgt. Mike Mittelstaedt said.

Los Angeles police are investigating the death of a 7-year-old Burbank boy and searching for his father after the child's body was found in the father's Hollywood apartment, authorities said Tuesday. There was no obvious cause of death for Clayton Denis, and an autopsy performed Tuesday was inconclusive, said Lt. Al Moen of the Police Department's child-abuse unit. Moen said investigators are awaiting for toxicological reports.

Authorities on Friday released the identity of a 26-year-old Gardena man whose body was found in a trash container in Downey. He was identified as Kay Roby. He was found Thursday morning in a dumpster in a carport on Emily Lane, according to a Los Angeles County coroner's office spokesman. Detectives are awaiting the results of an autopsy. Roby's death is being investigated as a homicide.

A second fire at a market in less than two weeks caused extensive damage early Friday morning and required firefighters from four cities to put it out. The Founder's Liquor Market and Deli at 330 N. Brea Blvd. looked "pretty well wiped out," said an employee of Shakey's Pizza, which is in the same building. The fire caused $150,000 in structural damage and $50,000 in damage to the store's contents, according to Battalion Chief Joel Shennum of the Brea Fire Department.

The manager of a border assembly plant was shot to death by unidentified assailants in Tijuana, police reported Tuesday. Police spokesman Lorenzo Garibay said it was unclear whether the shooting of executive Shiro Sasayama, 50, was the result of a botched robbery or kidnapping attempt. Sasayama was found dead in his car in an industrial section of Tijuana after two assailants reportedly shot him in the head with a .25-caliber pistol.

A dead man was discovered inside a car at about 12:30 p.m. Friday on Roscoe Boulevard near Wheatland Avenue, authorities said. Police are investigating the death as a homicide. The man was apparently shot to death, said Sgt. Ray Davies of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division. "We found the remains of a 29-year-old male in the rear seat area of a white compact sedan," said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Police said they have several leads and are aggressively investigating a drive-by shooting that killed 18-year-old Luis Hernandez of Los Angeles and wounded a 13-year-old girl. The shooting occurred early Sunday morning as a group of people were standing on the corner of La Habra Boulevard and Idaho Street. Investigators "have lots of avenues and possibilities," said Sgt. Michael Moore. "There were a lot of people standing on that corner" who have to be interviewed.
