Although a controversial plan to annex Sunset Beach has sparked plenty of worry in the tiny coastal community, Corinne Brubaker insists there's one aspect of small-town life that won't change: the post office. For half a century, the Sunset Beach Post Office on Pacific Coast Highway between 10th and 11th streets has functioned as the community's hub. Aside from a recent coat of buttercup-yellow paint, the one-story building has changed little in that time. Today, as the neighboring city of Huntington Beach seeks to absorb Sunset Beach, residents fear losing their quaint post office, where residents often are greeted by name and sometimes with a hug. Brubaker, the Sunset Beach postmaster, says they need not worry.

Even for Los Angeles, it's an impressive cast. Roger Moore owned the Beverly Hills Post Office Spanish hacienda in the '80s and '90s, then Candice Bergen bought it, and now the new owner is Cameron Diaz. The property was quietly shopped around to agents as a pocket listing for $10.25 million, but the sales price has not yet been reported on the L.A. County Tax Assessor's website. Occupying about 3 acres in a gated community, the compound has a 5,000-square-foot main house with three bedrooms and four bathrooms and a 2,000-square-foot guesthouse with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, according to the marketing pitch.

Country music superstars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have sold their Beverly Hills Post Office spread for $9.5 million. The two-story Mediterranean, with panoramic canyon and city views and a swimming pool with a spa, sits on 4.85 gated acres — a fair amount of breathing room for a "city" home. The two-story entry features limestone floors. There is a step-down living room. The 10,500-square-foot house's six bedrooms and 7 1/2 bathrooms include a master bedroom suite with dual bathrooms and a connecting gym. Hill, 42, has sold more than 40 million records.

Riverside County officials have postponed certification of the June 8 primary election results until they decide what, if anything, can be done about some 12,500 mail-in ballots that arrived a day late after being forwarded from one post office to another. With several close races possibly in the balance, activists have been putting pressure on elections officials to count the 12,563 ballots, which were collected the day after the election, and are planning legal action. "Our main concern is that people's votes should be counted, so we decided to take the lead on this," Nina Ramos Hiers, president of the Democratic Club of Moreno Valley, said Thursday.
