A schoolmate swinging a golf club Monday fractured the skull of Prince William, 8, son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Buckingham Palace said. The injury was accidental and not life-threatening but required a 70-minute operation to correct a depressed fracture on the boy's forehead, a spokesman said. Prince William and former girlfriend Kate Middleton are back together, British newspapers reported. The young couple, who announced in April that they had split, attended a party at an army barracks this month, newspapers said. A spokeswoman for William's Clarence House office declined to comment on the reports. William, second in line to the British throne, celebrated his 25th birthday on Thursday and gained access to part of the inheritance left him by his mother.

For newlywed royals Prince William and Catherine, there's no evading the limelight. So in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attempt to share it with a group of up-and-coming Britons in the film, television and video-game industries. As part of the couple's three-day trip to Southern California, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has organized "Brits to Watch," a black-tie event at the Belasco Theater that will allow 42 young British actors, directors, producers and other professionals to rub elbows with Hollywood executives and celebrities — and thus raise their profiles stateside.

Prince William took part in a British navy helicopter raid that opened fire on a speedboat believed to be used by drug runners, the Ministry of Defense said. It was the second time the prince, second in line to the throne, has helped his crew mates on the Iron Duke go after suspected narcotics traffickers in the Caribbean as part of his program to gain experience in all the branches of the British armed forces. Prince William graduated with honors from St. Andrews University in Scotland on Thursday in a traditional ceremony attended by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and father, Prince Charles. One of only three British royals in recent history to graduate from college, the 23-year-old prince earned a Scottish master's degree, the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree, in geography after four years of study.

Three-year-old Prince William made royal history today when he began kindergarten in a $280-a-semester school run by a bishop's daughter in the basement of her west London home. William, first-born son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, is the first heir to the British throne to receive his preschool education at a kindergarten. Charles received his early education at Buckingham Palace.
