Printronix Inc. posted a 41% increase in third-quarter net income, while sales declined 4%. The manufacturer of computer printers reported net income of $4.5 million, or 54 cents a share, for the fiscal quarter ended Dec. 26, up from $3.2 million, or 39 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales declined to $42.5 million from $44.5 million. Printronix attributed the revenue drop to weak sales in Europe and the financial turmoil in Asian markets.

Printronix Inc., a manufacturer of computer printers, said net income and revenue set records for the fiscal year ended March 28. Net income increased 72% to $11.7 million, or $1.40 a share, from $6.8 million, or 82 cents a share, for the prior year. Revenue rose 9% to $173.3 million from $159.3 million. Fourth-quarter net income advanced to $3.5 million, or 42 cents a share, from $1.3 million, or 16 cents a share, for the like period last year. Sales were up 1% to $41 million from $40.

Printronix said Monday that its board authorized the repurchase of up to 1 million of the company's outstanding shares of common stock from time to time on the open market. Printronix Inc., a manufacturer of computer printers, said start-up costs related to a new product line helped drive profit lower for the fiscal year. Net income for the year ended March 29 fell 6% to $6.8 million, or $1.23 a share, from $7.2 million, or $1.33 a share, for the prior year. Sales rose 9% to $159.3 million from $146.6 million. Net income for the fourth quarter declined 43% to $1.3 million, or 24 cents a share, from $2.3 million, or 43 cents a share, for the like period last year.
