Convicted child killer Susan Smith has been transferred from the South Carolina Women's Correctional Institute amid a widening investigation into a sex scandal at the prison, officials said Tuesday. Correctional Institute, a hospital transformed five years ago into a minimum security facility, the Godfather of Soul had risen at 5 a.m. to help prepare breakfast for about 150 mostly older prisoners.

Susan Smith, serving a life sentence for drowning her two young sons in a lake, apparently had sex with a guard four times while in prison in Columbia, S.C., corrections officials said. Officials learned of the alleged encounters while investigating a tabloid newspaper report that she had been beaten. The guard, 50, was suspended and could be fired, a prison spokesman said. Smith allegedly had sex with the guard at the Women's Correctional Institution in May and June.

Michael Anderson Godwin, 28, apparently was trying to fix a pair of earphones connected to his television set Sunday when he bit into a wire and was electrocuted in his cell at the Central Correctional Institution, officials said. Godwin was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1983.
