United Technologies Corp.'s Kidde unit is recalling 167,000 fire extinguishers that may not work because they lose pressure too quickly. The extinguishers were manufactured in Mexico from October 2007 to April 2008 and have model numbers FX340SC, FX340H, FX340GW, XL5MR, FX210R, FX340SC-2, FX210W, XL2.5TCZ-4 and E-340-3, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. is recalling more than 800,000 toy bears given away by the company's agents because they pose a choking hazard. The insurer received one report of a so-called Good Neigh Bear losing a plastic eye, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. About 24,000 3-in-1 highchairs, manufactured in Mexico and imported by Fisher-Price of East Aurora, N.Y., are being recalled because the seat can fall backward from the frame if the release is unlatched while a child is inside. The seat back can also detach if not snapped fully into place. The company has received one report of a detached seat back that resulted in a fractured skull. Unified Grocers in Commerce is recalling some Mariegold Baking bread because it might contain undeclared milk and soy, which could cause a severe or life-threatening reaction in people allergic to those ingredients. The loaves of white and wheat bread with tags dated before April 9 were distributed by Unified Grocers and other distributors to independent grocery stores in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. Consumers should return the bread to where it was purchased for a refund.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall on 65,000 diving suit inflation hoses after a diver died in Los Angeles. The manufacturer, SI Tech AB, has received six reports of hose inserts dislodging, including the one involved in the diver's death. The hose connects a diver's dry suit to the air supply so the suit can be inflated, helping it stay watertight. The hose contains a black, blue or green insert that can restrict air flow. If the insert dislodges, the air flow could be restricted, posing a drowning hazard.

Cardinal Health Inc. recalled 201,000 pumps used in its Alaris drug-infusion systems after reports of two deaths and an injury related to manufacturing defects. Pumps shipped before Sept. 27 may contain improperly assembled springs that could cause overdoses at hospitals, leading to "serious adverse health consequences" including death, the Dublin, Ohio-based company said in a statement dated Dec. 20 disclosing the voluntary recall. Customers were told of the action Nov. 5, Cardinal said on its website.

Rochester Meat Co. in Rochester, Minn., has recalled about 188,000 pounds of ground beef patties because of E. coli bacteria concerns. The recall was issued after five illnesses were reported in Wisconsin and one in California, federal inspectors said. The meat may be contaminated with a strain of bacteria that's potentially deadly.

About 125,000 magnetic toy building sets made in China and sold by Battat Inc. were recalled because the magnets could fall out and be swallowed by children, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. Each of the toy Magnabild sets included small magnetic rods, metal balls, triangles and squares for children to create designs. The agency said the toys were sold at various U.S. retail stores and online sites from 2005 through 2007 for $30 to $40. Details of the recalled toys were posted on the agency's website at www.cpsc.

Dollar Tree Stores Inc. is recalling about 253,000 Chinese-made glue guns because they can short-circuit, causing them to smoke and catch fire. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Dollar Tree was aware of seven incidents in which the glue guns short-circuited, including two injuries involving electrical shock and burns. The Crafters Square hot melt mini-glue guns were sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Express, Greenbacks, Only One $1, and Deal$ stores from February through August 2007, the commission said.
