The Commonwealth Health Department said Tuesday that more than 300 cases of gastroenteritis have been reported in the last four days in the western mountain village of Yauco, and officials have warned residents there not to drink from the town's water supply. Health officials said they are testing the water supply to see if it is contaminated.

Puerto Rico is experiencing one of the most serious AIDS epidemics in the Western world. Since 1982, there have been 2,940 reported cases of AIDS among the Caribbean island's 3.3 million residents and authorities estimate 10 times that number may be infected with the virus.
