AmeriQuest Technologies Inc. said Tuesday that it has become a nationwide distributor for hard disk drive products made by Quantum Corp. in Milpitas. Under the agreement, AmeriQuest is authorized to sell Quantum's line of hard disk drives and will sell Quantum's tape storage products in the near future.

ATL Products Inc.: The Irvine manufacturer of automated tape libraries to store computer data reported that net income for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30 increased 58% to $1.9 million, or 19 cents a share, from $1.2 million, or 12 cents a share, a year ago. Revenue advanced 77% to $33 million from $18.6 million. Quantum Corp. recently offered to acquire ATL, pending stockholder approval.

An explosion and fire ripped through a chemical plant Tuesday as workers were repairing damage from a blast three months ago, killing one person and injuring at least 15 others, authorities said. Witnesses who live 10 miles from the Quantum Chemical Corp. plant said they could see flames shooting into the air. The blast was caused by a leak of flammable ethylene gas, said Tim Crowley.
