A North Hollywood man who plowed his Mercedes-Benz into a crowd outside a Sunset Boulevard nightclub pleaded no contest Monday to 11 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of felony drunk driving, authorities said. Mark Adam Reaser, 26, was sentenced in Santa Monica Superior Court to a year in prison and four years probation and was ordered to pay restitution, Deputy Dist. Atty. David Wells said.

In a year filled with so many devastating losses, we weep yet again. On Saturday morning, Bianca Halstead from Betty Blowtorch died in a car crash at 5:30 a.m. in New Orleans. She'd been the passenger in an '86 Corvette that spun out of control. Rocker chicks are a rare and fierce breed, and according to those who knew her best, she was sweet as pie. Her life was celebrated Monday night at the store Serious on Melrose Avenue. Everyone who knew her is devastated.

Jazz is in the air in Los Feliz Marty and Elayne Roberts have been keeping toes tapping at the Dresden Lounge in Los Feliz for 22 years. The famed jazz duo celebrated this milestone on Thursday with a blowout sponsored by hipster jazz radio, the Fabulous 570. It's hard to be a symbol; it's even harder to be a teenager. Yet somehow the Runaways made both look easy - and over-the-top fun - for a few years in the bacchanalian L.A. rock scene of the mid-1970s. Sadly, both symbols and teens tend to age out. "Queens of Noise," Evelyn McDonnell's new history of the band, thrusts us into a nearly unrecognizable Los Angeles. Female students aren't allowed to play drums in school bands, everyone is taking Quaaludes, and lecherous music-industry types are sleeping with minors without compunction.
