Rainbow Technologies Inc.: The Irvine maker of computer security products said it lost $2.4 million, or 20 cents a share, for the fourth quarter, which included nonrecurring operating expenses of $5.3 million. For the 1997 fourth quarter, Rainbow recorded net income of $3.3 million, 27 cents a share. Revenue increased 7% to $30.7 million from $28.8 million. Net income for the year fell to $2.5 million, or 21 cents a share, from $11.3 million, or 95 cents a share, for 1997.

Rainbow Technologies Inc., which provides software and information security products, reported that net income for the fourth quarter rose 10% to $3.3 million, or 40 cents a share, from $3 million, or 37 cents a share, for the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue increased 36% to $28.8 million from $21.2 million. Net income for the year was up 8% to $11.3 million, or $1.42 a share, from $10.5 million, or $1.32 a share, for 1996. Revenue grew 16% to $94.7 million from $81.7 million.

Computer security firm Rainbow Technologies Inc. said Monday that it has bought a Northern California company in a stock-for-cash deal in an effort to bolster its commercial software line. Last week, Rainbow staff finalized its acquisition of Wyatt River Software Inc. of Santa Clara, a maker of software licensing tools. Neither company released details of the deal.

Rainbow Technologies Inc., an Irvine software protection company, reported profit of $5.6 million, or 99 cents a share, for 1994, down from $6 million, or $1.06 a share, for 1993. Revenue increased to $38.5 million from $35.1 million. Fourth-quarter profit totaled $1.7 million, or 31 cents a share, 31% higher than the $1.3 million, or 23 cents a share, recorded for the 1993 fourth quarter. Revenue rose to $11.2 million from $8.6 million.
