Jason Bay homered off Mariano Rivera with two out in the ninth to send the game to extra innings, and Kevin Youkilis hit a solo shot in the 11th on Friday night as the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees, 5-4, for their eighth consecutive victory. Ramon Ramirez (2-0) pitched one inning for the win. Damaso Marte (0-1) struck out three and gave up only one hit, the long drive over Fenway Park's Green Monster for Youkilis' fifth homer of the year and his second game-ender.

A 26-year-old Garden Grove auto theft suspect led police on a car and foot chase Monday that ended in Stanton, where he was arrested. Ramon Ramirez was arrested on several charges after he and an accomplice crashed a stolen vehicle into a street sign and tried to flee on foot, police said. The incident began when an employee at Mitsubishi Corp., 6400 Katella Ave., called police at 1:31 p.m. to report an attempted auto burglary in the parking lot, police said.

A Ventura man was in serious condition at Ventura County Medical Center on Tuesday after a hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of West Harrison Avenue. Police say Ramon Ramirez Zaragoza, 41, was walking down the center of West Harrison when he was hit head-on by a sedan about 7:15 p.m. Monday. Police already were headed to the area because Zaragoza reportedly had been asked to leave a market at the corner of Olive Street and West Harrison after causing a disturbance. Cpl.

An apparently intoxicated man slammed his car into the back of a parked sheriff's patrol car early Friday morning, sending the deputies who had just exited the car jumping for cover, authorities said. Deputies William Edwards and Theo Langford were questioning the driver of a Lincoln Continental about 12:30 a.m. along Rice Avenue in Oxnard when a car approached without its lights on, authorities said.

Jason Varitek hit a grand slam, Mike Lowell drove in six runs and the Boston Red Sox earned their biggest comeback victory against the Yankees since 1968, beating New York, 16-11, Saturday for their ninth straight victory. Boston was trailing, 6-0, before its offense got rolling with five runs in the fourth inning. Lowell hit a three-run homer in the seventh to put the Red Sox ahead for good, then added a three-run double in the eighth.

It remains doubtful whether many Major League Soccer fans will be seeing Jorge Campos in the season ahead, but Southern California fans will have that opportunity tonight.
