The City Council voted unanimously to begin seeking proposals from consulting services to handle public works, city and traffic engineering, city planning, building and safety and other services. The city must take over responsibility from the county for all these services no later than July 1. Dan Miller, the transition consultant for the city, and City Manager William Talley have recommended that the council hire outside consultants rather than taking on permanent staff at this time.
