Ventura resident Paulene E. Randall died Friday after a brief illness. She was 66. Born in Omaha, Neb., on Sept. 2, 1931, Randall had lived in Ventura County for 54 years. She was married to Robert Randall, also of Ventura, on Aug. 5, 1949. They had met at a dance in Foster Park. "She caught his eye, and she loved to dance," said daughter Roberta Wynn.

Randall Duell, an architect who learned to embellish movie sets and later became the designer of many of the country's best-known amusement parks, is dead. He was 89. He founded Duell Corp. after working as art director on 65 Metro Goldwyn Mayer feature pictures over 23 years, and was the creator of Magic Mountain, the original Universal Studios Tour and Opryland in Nashville, Tenn., a company spokesman said. Duell died Sunday of the complications of a stroke at his Los Angeles home.

Chino Hills Ayala Athletic Director Steve Martin announced the resignation of football Coach Lou Randall on Tuesday. When contacted Tuesday night, Randall said nothing is official but admitted he is in the hunt for a vacant job near his home. Martin confirmed that school is Riverside J.W. North. "I kind of guess you could say I did [resign]," Randall said. "I did announce to the kids [on Tuesday] that I have another job opportunity. But I didn't tell them I'd accepted the job.

Randall Hinshaw, 82, internationally recognized Claremont expert on economics. Associated with Claremont Graduate University for nearly four decades, Hinshaw specialized in monetary theory. He began his career with the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., worked with the post-World War II Marshall Plan in Paris, was an economist at the U.S. Department of Commerce and a special advisor to NATO on trade and international monetary policy.

Marcus Randall came off the bench and threw two touchdown passes, including a 10-yarder with 27 seconds to play, to help No. 24 Louisiana State upset No. 12 Florida, 24-21, Saturday night at Gainesville, Fla. LSU, 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC, overcame a 21-7 deficit, three turnovers and the loss of starting quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who sprained an ankle. The Gators (3-2, 2-2) led, 21-17, with 2:06 left, and the Tigers needed to go 50 yards for the go-ahead score. No problem.

Randall R. Lee was named Wednesday as the new director of the Securities and Exchange Commission's regional office in Los Angeles. Lee, 40, succeeds Valerie Caproni, who left in July for a private law firm in New York. Lee will assume his new post next month. Since 1994, Lee has worked in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

Randall Goforth was oh-so-close to a highlight play in Saturday's game against Nebraska. The UCLA freshman safety made his first college start and nearly picked off a pass on the Cornhuskers' third play. Goforth also nearly had a pick later in the game, with the ball bouncing out of his hands. Those were about the only things he did wrong. "That was uncharacteristic of him," Coach Jim Mora said. Everything else followed form. Goforth started at safety because Andrew Abbott was moved to cornerback because Sheldon Price was injured.
