Charles A. Laverty has been elected to the board of directors of Pinnacle Micro Inc., an Irvine recordable CD technology and optical storage systems company. He is chairman and chief executive of Urohealth Systems Inc. in Newport Beach. Laverty succeeds John P. Haynie, president and chief executive of Newport Digital, who did not seek reelection. * Joe Engler has been named public relations director for the Rankin Group Ltd., an Orange advertising, marketing and public relations agency.

An Irvine businessman and vocal teacher with the Orange County-based All-American Boys Chorus has been charged with repeatedly molesting a boy he met in the group. Roger A. Giese, 27, is accused of molesting a Buena Park teenager from May 1998--when the boy was 13--to May 2002. Giese was released on $200,000 bail after his arrest Friday and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 18. On Tuesday he resigned from the chorus. Giese is a senior account executive at Rankin Group Ltd.

Family Restaurants Inc. has named Roger K. Chamness as president of its Chi-Chi's division and William D. Burt as president of its El Torito operations. Chamness, a 15-year restaurant industry veteran, most recently served as executive vice president of finance and administration at Family Restaurants. Chamness succeeds Jack McGregor, an executive who joined the company temporarily in late 1995 to help with an ongoing reorganization.
