A former choral teacher who was charged with the 1998 rape of a 13-year-old female student pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Antelope Municipal Court, officials said. Wayne Martin, 50, of Palmdale, was charged with forcible rape, child molestation and sexual intercourse with a minor under 16, said Phil Rabichow, head deputy district attorney at the county office in Lancaster.

A 21-year-old man suspected of being the "teardrop rapist" was charged Tuesday with child molestation, kidnapping and rape. Prosecutors are recommending that Matthew Gonzales' bail be set at over $3 million. Gonzales, of Los Angeles, is charged with two counts of kidnap for rape, one count of child molestation of a victim under 14 and one count of rape by force. The victims identified their alleged attacker by the teardrop tattoos under both eyes, authorities said.

A Los Angeles man suspected of being the "teardrop rapist" remained in custody Saturday in connection with two sexual assaults, including an attack on a 13-year-old girl in Hollywood. Police said Matthew Gonzalez, 21, who has teardrop tattoos under both eyes, was arrested about 7:30 p.m. Friday at Venice Boulevard and 12th Avenue in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles. Gonzalez was booked on nine sexual assault charges stemming from the abduction and rape of a 13-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman, police said.

Los Angeles police looking for a man responsible for at least seven sexual assaults in the West Valley since March 29 may have another clue--the color and make of his car. Officer David Ralphs said the man may have propositioned a housekeeper near the corner of Roscoe Boulevard and Valley Circle in West Hills earlier this week while driving a blue 1985 to 1989 Honda . Police released a composite drawing Tuesday of the man they say is responsible for at least seven rapes across the San Fernando Valley since March, including an attack in which a woman was raped in front of her 8-year-old son. The serial rapist is believed to be Latino, African American or of mixed-race descent. He is probably in his 20s or 30s, about 5 feet 9 and 160-170 pounds, said Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Jason Lee.

The Los Angeles City Council offered a $25,000 reward Friday to help catch the man police believe is responsible for five recent attacks on women in the San Fernando Valley. "It's all about wanting to return the streets and areas of the city to safety and to places where women and their children can feel safe," Councilwoman Laura Chick said. Women have been sexually assaulted in four of the attacks, and in two of those cases children were present. The victims range in age from 21 to 47.

New charges filed against Jelani Efron King, the man suspected of being the so-called Westside rapist, reveal a five-month crime rampage in which he allegedly raped seven women, attacked three and burglarized the homes of 13 others. King, 20, was arraigned Wednesday on 63 felony counts, including 23 counts of residential burglary, 15 counts of forcible rape, and five counts of robbery among other charges, Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Latin said. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Police were seeking a masked gunman Monday who robbed, kidnapped and sexually assaulted two young women. The women were approached about 11:30 p.m. Sunday by a man wearing a ski mask and carrying a small semiautomatic handgun, said Officer Eduardo Funes of the Los Angeles Police Department. After robbing the women of an undisclosed amount of money, the man forced the women into their car and directed them to a secluded area, where he sexually assaulted them, Funes said.

A 20-year-old man who police suspect is the so-called Westside rapist pleaded not guilty in a Santa Monica courtroom Wednesday to nine felony counts. Jelani Efron King of Los Angeles was arraigned in connection with two attacks. But prosecutors plan to file "substantial additional counts" within the next week involving five other incidents, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office. The charges filed against King stem from a Dec. 21 attack in Santa Monica and a Feb.

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man they believe is the so-called Westside Rapist responsible for a string of sexual assaults in Palms, Santa Monica and Venice neighborhoods, officials said Tuesday. Jelani Efron King of Los Angeles was taken into custody about 7 p.m. Monday by a multi-agency task force headed by the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities said physical evidence, including DNA, so far links King to six of seven sexual assaults blamed on the Westside Rapist.
