In the Westside neighborhood of Palms, fear lingers like smoke after a fire. The so-called Westside Rapist is believed to have struck in the area twice in 10 days, attacking two women who live on the same block. Seven women have been assaulted since December, with the suspect usually slipping into their apartments through an unlocked door or window.

Police were searching Friday for a man suspected of kidnapping an 11-year-old girl from her Los Angeles neighborhood and raping her in a Pacoima motel. Police said the man pretended to befriend the girl, who lives west of downtown, and drove her to the Coral Bells Motel at 10691 San Fernando Road. The man was armed with a gun. After the attack, the girl called police. A resident of the motel also reported seeing the girl and the man in the motel parking lot, said Det.

Police warned parents Sunday afternoon to closely guard their children after a second girl was possibly targeted for abduction by a man who looked like the attacker of a 12-year-old girl raped last week in a city park bathroom. In the most recent incident, an 11-year-old girl was accosted at noon Saturday by a man on a bike as she walked along Oxnard Street near Vineland Avenue, two miles from the site of Thursday's assault at Valley Plaza Park in North Hollywood.

Los Angeles police on Friday were searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl at gunpoint in a restroom at a public park, authorities said. The attack occurred at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Valley Plaza Park in the 12200 block of Archwood Street, said Capt. Greg Meyer of the LAPD's North Hollywood Division. "This was truly a vicious crime and we want this person caught," Meyer said at an afternoon news conference at the station.

Police on Wednesday released more details on the men who carjacked and brutalized a Covina couple this week. Authorities said the married couple had just left a relative's house in the area about 10 p.m. Monday. "They had just gotten into their [truck] and were ready to drive home," said Det. The final two suspects in a vicious robbery, rape and slaying at a Harbor City restaurant were taken into custody, police said Thursday. Roderick Lipsey, 24, of Long Beach was arrested Monday, and James Mathews, 19, also of Long Beach, was arrested Tuesday. "Lipsey acknowledged his participation in the robbery, and he's also currently on parole for another robbery," said LAPD spokesman Jason Lee.

Three armed robbers terrorized customers and staff at a family restaurant in the Harbor Gateway area, slashing the throat of a cook, sexually assaulting one patron and pistol-whipping others, police said Monday. A registered sex offender suspected in the attempted rape and sexual assault of three woman over a period of 1 1/2 hours is being held on $1.7 million bail, authorities said. Robert Broussard, 51, allegedly broke into three homes in the downtown area early Saturday and attacked the women, said Police Lt. Gil Kranke. He was arrested on charges of sexual assault, attempted rape, oral copulation, penetration by a foreign object, burglary and attempted burglary.

A Sunday school teacher was ordered Tuesday to stand trial in the rapes of two women he met at church functions and then asked to tap into their Christian charity and forgive him. "Are you going to pray for me or expose me?" Simon Pryce, 28, allegedly asked a 27-year-old Van Nuys woman after raping her in August, according to her testimony in Van Nuys Municipal Court. She called the police.
